I was curious to know what type of tires you like to run for Taneum? I am due for a new pair and since I ride there quite frequently I thought I'd see what opinions others have to offer.

Thanks,

Mike

I like trials tires because they bite better in most conditions. Less wheel spin means more control and less trail tread ware'n'tear.

With Taneum being a fairly high speed riding area, would a trials tire be appropriate? I used to ride at Reiter a lot and I could totally see it there. I don't know. I've never used a trials tire, but they are frequently mentioned.

I was skeptical at first, but I can only think of two situations where I'd rather have a knobby: deep muck and deep sand. Although, I just rode an area with deep sandy loam and didn't have much to complain about.

With Taneum's hills and switchbacks and some of the rocky sections I was glad to go with the trials tire. In areas where the soil is compacted hard? The trials will outperform the knobby.

Plus, I've gotten many more miles compared to a knobby because it spends less time spinning and wearing out. Also, the trials provides great traction even when the knobs are worn down.

You know I think I'll try one for a few rides and see what I think. Do you have a favorite tire you'd suggest over the others?

I've ridden two trials tires: the Pirelli MT43 and the IRC. I rode the IRC for only one event and found it had great traction. It went onto my wife's KDX200. I went with the MT43 on my 300 because I ride more.

The MT43 has a nice shoulder to help protect the rim and has a little stiffer carcass. The trade off is it doesn't have quite the grab as some of the other trials tires out there, but still "way more better" traction than a knobby. The MT43 feels more like a knobby when riding compared to the IRC.

I've got about 2000 miles and nearly two years on the MT43 with plenty knob left on it and no cracking. In comparison, the stock knobby was toast in 6 months and far less mileage per month.

As with oils, everybody has a favorite. So far, the Pirelli MT43 is working well for me.

Superfsh,

Thanks for the response.

I agree about the stock knobby on my 300. At 40 hours the knobs were rounded as basketballs. On your advice I am going to try the MT43. Did you keep the stock front tire? I think mine was a Bridgestone 402 or 403.

I went with another Pirelli - the Scorpion Pro. Good tire. I liked it better than the stock tire for around here. It is DOT approved. I got one enduro series out of it before it starting chucking out badly, but it is still on there for play riding. When it gets swapped out I'm going with the Scorpion XCMS....or whatever the letter designation is....for the cross country intermediate/soft tire. "The best enduro tire out there". Well, we'll see about that I guess.

Marc,

Check these out

http://motoz.us/index.php

You might have heard of them? They are supposed to do pretty well also.

Haven't seen those before. Guess I'll have to keep my peepers open to see if someone has tried them.

There are a couple of threads on TT, that more or less stated they are the bees knees, and very affordable to boot. Just hard to get a hold of.

I just ordered a set of Motoz for my 450R from the local (Vancouver, WA. I think) I should have them for the Shelton Fun Days to give them a test run.

Ended up with a pair of Motoz from Brapoffroad. Very satisfied with the tires and the service. From the time the tires came off the boat to my front door was 48 hours.

The MotoZ have been a good tire so far however I would like to try a Trials tire next time but I have 19" wheels. Anyone know which ones are made in 19"?
