Help DNR chart a course for recreation in Washington
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will be looking to user groups and individuals to help create a new vision for recreation on DNR-managed forestlands, aquatic lands and natural areas. Throughout the month of September, DNR will host nine workshops across the state to gather input from interested citizens.
We invite you to come share your thoughts on the direction of recreation in Washington. Where do you recreate? What kinds of recreation activities do you enjoy? How easily can you access recreation on state-managed lands? Drop by various topic stations at one of the workshops, talk to staff and provide your thoughts on these and other questions.
DNR will bring your answers to these and other questions to the newly formed Sustainable Recreation Work Group. This group was established by the 2008 Legislature to assist DNR in developing a long-term vision that ensures safe, sustainable, and enjoyable outdoor recreation on DNR-managed land.
Meeting dates and locations (All meetings are from 6 to 9 p.m.):
September 9 – King County Library Service Center, Issaquah (Kick-off meeting)
September 10 – Omak Community Library, Omak
September 10 – Longhouse Educational and Cultural Center, The Evergreen State College, Olympia
September 11 – Deer Park Library, Deer Park
September 15 – Hoquiam Library, Hoquiam
September 15 – Vancouver Water Resources Education Center, Vancouver
September 16 – Port Angeles Library, Port Angeles
September 16 – Burlington Library, Burlington
September 17 – Grupe Conference Center, Central Washington University, Ellensburg
Why this new focus on recreation?
The last time the state officially addressed recreation issues on DNR-managed lands was 37 years ago with the passage of the Multiple Use Act in 1971. This act is based on the concept of state lands being available for multiple uses where appropriate, including various types of recreation. Since then, the face of recreation has changed significantly beyond what anyone envisioned. New forms of recreation have come on the scene including paragliding, mountain biking and paintball. Motorized off-road vehicle use has more than doubled in the state in the last 10 years. And, the overall volume of visitors to state lands has grown dramatically.
The Multiple Use Act still provides a solid foundation for recreation in Washington. Your input will help identify ways to better take into account the changing nature of recreation, pressures from a growing population, and the need to ensure the environmental health of DNR-managed lands.
If you’d like directions to any of the workshops, call Jana Greer at 360-902-1730 or send an e-mail to jana.greer@dnr.wa.gov.
The DNR is proposing changes to rules regarding access to public land which as worded will restrict our riding privledges. For more information click

Poker Run Series to Host Canned Food Drive, 5/13/2007
Many of our Washington state public lands that are used for motorized offroad recreation are located in rural areas.
Some of the small towns in these rural areas have a small financial base that is dependant on seasonal outdoor recreational uses.
We would like to give something back to the communities that provide us offroaders with the local services that are available when we are out enjoying our great sport of motorized offroad recreation.
The Poker Run Series will be hosting several canned food drives at poker run events during the 2007 poker run season.
The event dates that we would like to ask participants to bring donations to are:
June 23rd and 24th Little Bear Enduro & Super Dirt poker run, Capitol forest
August 18th & 19th Smuggler poker run, Capitol Forest
Sept 8th Rock & Roll poker run, Jones Creek
Sept 16th Bell's angels check point run, Capitol Forest
Oct 21st Halloween poker run,Tahuya
Please bring non-perishable canned, and boxed dry foods to these events.
Please forgive the delay in posting points standings and race results updates. We're making the transition to a new webmaster and it's taking longer than we planned. We are addressing the issues as quickly as we can. Your patience is appreciated.
Results from round 2 of the Off-Road Series are now posted on our
results page. Note that the long course overall results are incomplete. As soon as the data is received, these will be updated.
We did not want to wait any longer to post these. Updated points standings are in works.
Trick dual sport kit, HT Racing Aluminum oil cooler/case cover on left side, cush drive rear wheel, peg sliders, Endruo Engineering clutch lever. The airbox pins are missing, and led tail light. House of Horsepower suspension, so there's House of Horsepower stickers on the shock and right side fork tube. The oil cooler should be particularly easy to spot, it's a big silver aluminum thing on the left side of the engine with braided hoses coming out of it.
The Washington State Legislature is currently considering drastic changes to the offroad vehicle noise laws.
The proposed changes would include creating maximum sound levels for riding near any residence, regardless of where that residence is located or how it is zoned. It would become illegal to ride if your bike is either "plainly audible" or exceeds 45 decibels from inside of, or with 10 feet of any residence. This would even include residences that are on farm land, forest land or in an industrial area. It would also be illegal to ride if your bike exceeds 55 decibels at the property line.
These new limits would only apply to your dirtbike or quad. It would not apply to other, more common sources of residential noise such as lawnmowers, chainsaws, cars, trucks, boats, airplanes, stereos, playgrounds, ballfields, etc. It is just plain discrimination against ORV use and has nothing to do with keeping neighborhoods quiet.
If this becomes law, forget about riding any track in the State of Washington. Also, you can count on the vast majority of riding areas shutting down.
Contact your State Senator and two House of Representatives members NOW! Let them know what you think of this discriminatory piece of legislation.
The first set of ORP points standings for our 2007 series are now available. They took a little longer to get online this year, but they should be updated regularly after each event now.
