NMA 50th Anniversary – Poker Runs
Poker runs are the ultimate form of family fun on dirt bikes. NMA clubs host them throughout the Pacific Northwest, often with several kids and two or more generations of families riding together.
In September 1986 the Puget Sound Enduro Riders Shelton Valley Dart Poker Run was held as a benefit to the NMA. It was staged from the Mason County Fairgrounds with a 40-mile-long course for bikes only, a 25-mile short course including quads and 3-wheelers and a 2-mile kids’ course.
The Boeing Employees Motorcycle Club hosted the 1989 NMA Benefit Poker Run at Tahuya, over 470 riders attended.
1994 was kicked off with the Wet Turkey Poker Run in Tahuya. The event doubled as a membership drive for the NMA. 309 riders participated and 267 NMA memberships were sold that day. Kara Hymek was the recipient of the Women’s trophy, Tyson Bysod took home the Kid’s trophy and Brendon Ritzman won the grand prize of a full set of riding gear donated by Seattle Cycle Center.

In 2000 Cascade Family M/C hosted the 24th annual Super Dirt Poker Run at Capitol Forest. Over 300 riders showed up. The club voted to donate 100% of the event’s net proceeds to pay NMA membership dues of all poker run entrants who were not already members.
