On my fifth birthday, Independence Day weekend 1974, my parents gave me a brand spankin’ new Honda MR50. I learned to ride that bike at Indian Campground in Teanaway that weekend. Our family went camping and riding a lot. Being from the Seattle area, we rode mostly at Tahuya, Capitol, Reiter, and sometimes at Walker. I loved the annual trips to Cle Elum coal piles, where we camped at Bullfrog and other dispersed spots. There were also trips to Naches and the Cabin Creek Road exit off I-90. Between the ages of 12 to 37 I wasn’t involved in dirt biking, and upon my return to the sport I noted a lot of changes in the woods. But the biggest thing that struck me was a lack of expansion in riding opportunities in Wasihington, even though the state’s population and sport had grown over that 25 years. I wanted to support an organization that was trying to solve that issue and that’s when I learned about NMA. I started volunteering in various capacities around 2005. The 2008 Sparkplug Enduro was my first exposure to timekeeping, and I was hooked! I climbed up through NMA Enduro Classes to reach Senior A, but the Class Champion jacket has eluded me so far. In 2018 I was elected president and accepted the role as Executive Director in the spring of 2025. NMA has been awarded every RCO grant it has applied for since its first application in 2018. This is because NMA is the sum of its people – the membership – and we can contribute in valuable ways. Together, we have been delivering on NMA’s primary objective: preserving off-road motorcycling in Washington. It has been an honor working with fellow dirt bikers and serving our community in Washington. I look forward to a great future ahead!

I started riding at a young age, but wasn’t able to buy my own bike until I was about 10 years old. It was a 1974 Yamaha TY80. It wasn’t new or fast, but I sure was proud to have bought it with my own hard-earned money! Fast forward to the present, and I now own bikes that aren’t so old or slow (even though the guy that rides them is!) I joined the Yakima Valley Dust Dodgers in 2015, and served as the club president for 5 years. I have enjoyed my time in the club, as well as being able to become involved in the planning and execution of various projects with the Naches Ranger District in the Little Naches and Rimrock areas. I have met many wonderful people through riding and working on singletrack trails across the state, as well as the numerous NMA events I have attended. I was elected Secretary of the NMA in November of 2022, and now serve as Vice President since November of 2023. Being a part of this organization is an honor, and I look forward to what we can accomplish together in the present and future!

I started riding motorcycles some 55 years ago and eventually got into enduro riding thru reading the first issue of Dirt Bike Magazine (Thanks Super Hunky … and Godspeed). I moved from Michigan to Washington in 1978 and started competing in NMA events as a means to meet other riders and learn about new riding areas. I haven’t competed in many years but have enjoyed riding single track “religiously” on my Beta XTrainer, especially in the mountains. Now as I get “more seasoned” I’ve also looked to volunteering with the NMA. I’ve found my finance and analytic work experience fits well with the needs of our trail maintenance programs and have been supporting the grant billing there since our first award 6 years ago. Currently, I am interim NMA treasurer as well as secretary for our NMA Foundation … but that’s “just for fun”. Seriously, I volunteer to make our organization successful in any way I can to help assure our “world class” trail system is maintained for generations to come.
